On Test: ROL Race SL's
If you frequent web forums and consumer review sites you no doubt know quite a bit about ROL Wheels. They are consistently ranked very highly and customers rave about their performance. Why? What’s to get excited about? Just another set of aluminum clinchers, right? Dig a little deeper into all these reviews and the one common thread is customer service. Seems like the guys at ROL are making a great set of wheels, at a great price, and backing it up with some exceptional customer service. After all, ROL is a direct-to-consumer company allowing them to charge significantly lower prices than your standard LBS brand.

We got a set of their Race SL’s in for test, perhaps their best selling wheels. They are 30mm deep aero cross section aluminum clinchers weighing 1550 grams; definitely ROL’s entry into the all-rounder market. The Hubs are 3D forged to ROL’s design specs with sealed cartridge bearings. What helps set them apart from other cost conscious brands is their use of DT Swiss Aerolite spokes and Alloy DT Swiss Prolock nipples, suggesting a long and useful life of true service. Hand built, $589 for a set and only a scant 70grams heavier than $1000 Mavic Ksyrium SL’s they had our attention.
We’ll be getting these wheels on the road in a day or two to begin our testing process, and as all-rounders we will be unleashing them on long climbs, group rides, and tight four corner crits. Stay tuned for our full video review.
